Who We Are

MED International started as a nonprofit in the U.S. It is founded by Jayson Marwaha, a Brown University student, in 2011.

MED International's mission evolved from raising the standard of healthcare by supporting innovative research, technology, clinical practice, and education. Our first use case focused on two problems on a small island in East Africa.

Collaborated with Tanzanian Embassy in Washington DC to identify rural hospitals needing life-saving equipment.

  • Zanzibar's public health system has an immense need for hospital technology.

  • Jayson and the Brown University-sponsored team funded by Brown University visited Zanzibar, Tanzania.

  • Discovered most current donations of hospital technology do not consider the relevance or long-term sustainability of the equipment.

MED International provided equipment and technology to Zanzibar (Mnazi Mmoja Hospital), Dar-e-Salam (Agakhan Hospital)), and Arusha healthcare systems.

  • Hospitals had unused equipment due to lack to technician training

  • Jayson and Alexander Marwaha visited cities in East Africa to provide consulting to hospitals.

  • Biomed Engineer from Duke University stationed at Mnazi Mmoja trained local engineers

  • Brown University’s team developed an application to help supervise the use of donated equipment.

COVID lockdown was the driver in expanding MED International’s mission. Team reached out and later visited India and identified orphanages to support early stages of healthcare delivery to children.

  • Today, MED International’s directors are comprised of Jay Marwaha, Alexander Marwaha, Natasha Marwaha, and some prominent members from the healthcare sector. We are constantly looking for more prominent members who are passionate about the cause. We at MED International accept donations from the public so we can continue to provide life-changing healthcare to many children.

Our Funding

The funding for these projects initially came from several donors. Since founding MED International in 2011, it has grown with significant assets contributed by the Marwaha family.

Our Philosophy

MED International focuses on understanding and addressing clinical needs and maintenance capacity one region at a time so that donations are used to their fullest potential. This means a lot of talking to local stakeholders and end-users of equipment like doctors, nurses, and technicians.

MED International always works alongside private and government organizations on its donations and capacity-building initiatives. This enhances existing health infrastructure and ensures the sustainability of our work.

The directors of Med International are also involved with local healthcare institutions. They work closely with one of the nation's largest healthcare providers in Northern Virginia - Inova Health System.
